Best Work Incentives

Work Incentive Planning & Assistance (WIPA) Benefits Counseling helps individuals receiving SSI or SSDI understand how work and income affect their benefits, healthcare coverage, and long-term financial stability.

What is WIPA?

The Work Incentive Planning and Assistance (WIPA) program provides personalized guidance on how employment earnings can impact public benefits. WIPA benefits counseling helps you understand how SSI, SSDI, food assistance, housing support, Medicare, and Medicaid change as you return to work or increase earnings.

Community Work Incentives Coordinators (CWICs)

Community Work Incentives Coordinators (CWICs) complete extensive federal training to ensure individuals receive accurate, personalized benefits counseling. CWICs meet with beneficiaries individually—either by phone or in person—and research each client’s unique benefits profile.

CWICs Will:

  • Explain how employment and earnings affect cash and medical benefits.
  • Review all available work incentives—automatic and optional.
  • Provide information about the Ticket to Work program and Employment Networks.
  • Guide applicants through the PASS Program (Plan to Achieve Self-Support).
  • Offer referrals for services outside the WIPA program’s scope.
